【摘要】:1.1Thispracticecoversproceduresfortheuseofelectromagneticacoustictransducers(EMATs)forspecificultrasonicexaminationapplications.RecommendationsaregivenforspecificapplicationsforusingEMATtechniquestodetectflawsthroughbothsurfaceandvolumetricexaminationsaswellastomeasurethickness.1.2Theseproceduresrecommendtechnicaldetailsandguidelinesforthereliableandreproducibleultrasonicdetectionofflawsandthicknessmeasurementsusingelectromagneticacoustictransducersforboththepulsingandreceivingofultrasonicwaves.TheEMATtechniquesdescribedhereincanbeusedasabasisforassessingtheserviceabilityofvariouscomponentsnondestructively,aswellasforprocesscontrolinmanufacturing.1.3Theseprocedurescovernoncontacttechniquesforcouplingultrasonicenergyintomaterialsthroughtheuseofelectromagneticfields.Surface,Lamb,longitudinal,andshearwavemodesarediscussed.1.4TheseproceduresareintendedtodescribespecificEMATapplications.TheseproceduresareintendedforapplicationsinwhichtheuserhasdeterminedthattheuseofEMATtechniquescanoffersubstantialbenefitsoverconventionalpiezoelectricsearchunits.ItisnotintendedthatEMATtechniquesshouldbeusedinapplicationsinwhichconventionaltechniquesandapplicationsoffersuperiorbenefits(refertoGuideE1774).1.5Theseproceduresareapplicabletoanymaterialinwhichacousticwavescanbeintroducedelectromagnetically.Thisincludesanymaterialthatiseitherelectricallyconductiveorferromagnetic.1.6TheproceduresoutlinedinthispracticeaddressprovenEMATtechniquesforspecificapplications;theydonotpurporttoaddresstheonlyvariationorallvariationsofEMATtechniquestoaddressthegivenapplications.Latitudeinapplicationtechniquesisofferedwhereoptionsareconsideredappropriate.1.7Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
